The trend of the match was set early on as Arsene Wenger’s men dominated the midfield as an injury-hit Red Devils’ side absorbed the pressure and looked to hit on the counter attack. Maradona Vs Pele

Ever since the 80s, football fans (some of them anyway) have been comparing Maradona to Pele with some claiming that Pele was the better of the two while others that Maradona was the better player. Of course, for my part, I always found this argument to be as pointless as comparing apples to oranges. It being a case that though Maradona and Pele were both football players, they played in different times; as Pele played from 1956 to 1977 while Maradona from 1976 to 1997.

FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011 Controversy: Did Referee Melksham Favour Brazil Against USA?

USA beat Brazil in the quarter-finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, a result that looked unlikely after the Americans were reduced to 10 players on the pitch, when midfielder Rachel Buehler was given marching orders by referee Jacqui Melksham. Had USA not scraped through in a penalty shoot out, after a 2-2 thriller, in regulation time, Buehler’s red card would probably have become a major controversy. Not because it was not deserved but because of other incidents that appeared to point to refereeing bias.

 History of the Soccer Ball

The soccer ball’s history is as rich, protracted and varied as the game it serves. Although their evolution can be traced to ancient history and cultures, the history dates back to more recent times – the 19th century. Indeed, soccer is well over a century old and the modern, high-tech ball has come a very long way from the irregular-shaped pig’s bladder.

 The First World Cup

In honor of its having won two world championships at the past two Olympics already, Uruguay was designated as the host country of the inaugural FIFA World Cup.
