Everyone in the Beckham family is a super-zealous fan of Manchester United Football Club. David started playing soccer for a local youth club called Ridgeway Rovers, which was coached by Steve Kirby and David’s father. It was not a surprise that David became a fan of Manchester United.

Sir Alex Ferguson has been honoured after completing twenty-five years in charge of Manchester United, the club have renamed the North Stand at their Old Trafford stadium, the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand. The most successful and longest serving manager in the Premier League was greeted onto the pitch by his own players and a standing ovation form the crowd before the Premier League game against Sunderland, and the announcement was made, the re-naming of the stand had been kept a closely guarded secret. USA beat Brazil in the quarter-finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, a result that looked unlikely after the Americans were reduced to 10 players on the pitch, when midfielder Rachel Buehler was given marching orders by referee Jacqui Melksham. Had USA not scraped through in a penalty shoot out, after a 2-2 thriller, in regulation time, Buehler’s red card would probably have become a major controversy. Not because it was not deserved but because of other incidents that appeared to point to refereeing bias.
