Revenge is a strong motivation for Germany who are seeking to excel in their semi-final against Spain, at Durban, tonight. Germany lost 1-0 to Spain in the Euro 2008 final at Vienna, with Fernando Torres scoring the winning goal. While Spain have a fairly unchanged side from the one that won the Euro 2008 championship, Germany has since had an infusion of young talent in Oezil, Mueller and Khedira, to name the most prominent.

European team has never win the FIFA World Cup outside of the Europe continent. However, the 2010 edition held in South Africa might see a European country emerge as winner. Argentina becomes the latest South America country to crash out from the tournament after Brazil.

Since my last posting, the World Cup has picked up considerably in action. There has been more goal scoring, and more drama. While the refs have been pretty terrible in retrospect, there has been no shortage of action since the first few games.

3rd day into the world cup and it seems that the goalkeepers are playing their role. On one hand you have Robert Green (England) and Faouzi Chaouchi (Algeria) who allowed really soft goals that cost their team valuable points, on the other hand you have Vincent Enyeama who saved his team from a terrible defeat when stopping Leo Messi and the Argentinian strikers time after time.

Spain’s chances of winning the World Cup 2010 took a blow as Fernando Torres was declared injured and is due to miss the rest of the season after knee surgery. Torres is expected to be out of action for six weeks which means he could be fit for the tournament but it is hardly an ideal situation. If he is fit to play, he certainly won’t be at his peak.
