Pele trivia is such an important part of sports history, as he is to soccer what Michael Jordan is to Basketball and what Wayne Gretzky is to hockey. Pele is a nickname that he came to be known under later in his life, and when he was born in 1940 his name was Edison Arantes do Nascimento. His father was also a Footballer, and he was born in Tres Coracoes. While many athletes have nicknames that have stuck with them for one good reason or another, Pele’s comes from an illogical place, and yet has stuck with him through his adult life.

British footballer David Beckham confronted a fan after receiving ugly taunts and boos from certain spectators during his first home game with LA Galaxy on Sunday. After first half, the former England captain walked over to a section of the crowd holding anti-Beckham banners and signaled to an apparently hostile LA Galaxy fan to come closer, a man sitting in the crowd immediately jumped down from the seats but security managed to stop him before he reached Beckham.

In 1950, Brazil hosted the World Cup and the soccer loving nation were fully behind their heroes, who at the time played in a white shirt with blue collar. Going into the final match, which was decided by a league format as opposed to a stand-alone match, Brazil only needed a draw to clinch the trophy whilst rivals Uruguay had to win.

The catenaccio is a tactical system in soccer that implicate strong defence, hard tackling and the use of a particular role player, the sweeper, who is positioned just ahead of the goalkeeper. In this way the sweeper (or libero in Italian language) recovers balls lost by his team-mates or helps in double marking if needed. It was largely and successfully used in 60′s by Italian clubs as Inter, Milan and Triestina.

Real Madrid came into this game with a lot of injuries to key players like Ruud Van Nistlerooy, Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder and suspension to Sergio Ramos. They were however boosted by the return of Robinho and Pepe but ultimately paid for the lack of creativity in the middle of the park and for the lack of physical presence upfront. Roma on the other hand had a full complement to pick from and played a very smart game denying Real any space whatsoever and causing problems of their own with Alberto Aquilani being outstanding in the first half.
