To become a good or great dribbler, you need to spend a lot of time with the ball. Look at the South American players they all have great ball control and skills, why. Because they have and are willing to spend time with the ball.

To become a good dribbler you need to able to use all surfaces of the foot. Mostly you will use the top of your foot as it is easier to control the ball at speed. However to become a world class dribbler you need to able to use the sole of your foot, the outside of the foot. this is useful to cut away from defenders. Look at players like Ronaldinho and Leo Messi, they proficient at using using all areas of the foot, because they work hard to improve their dribbling both by practice and by copying good players.

It’s important while dribbling to touch the ball with every step, this allows you to change direction quickly if confronted by a defender. Look at Messi he dribbles at pace with lots of touches on the ball this allows him to easily change direction and cut inside of his defender. Having close control also has another positive outcome, if you have close control of the ball sometimes you will be tackled but still retain possession of the ball

Change of pace. All the great dribblers have a turn of speed allowing them to elude defender by simply changing their pace. If your extremely fast you can also run at defenders at pace throwing simple dummies into the equation, this puts off the defender because he is traveling backwards and will become slightly off balance, allowing you beat him.

Keep your head up. It always important to keep your head up as much as possible while dribbling as it’s not always the best option to dribble past your opponent. Keeping your head up also make your dummies more effective, because while dribbling you fake to pass the ball, and a defender is not going to fall for a dummy if he realize that your kept head down at the ball and you have no idea what your passing options are.

Improve your weaker foot. There’s no real simple trick here but just to use it. George Best when he was a young lad once score a bag full of goals in a game with his right foot, but a scout didn’t want him because he only had one foot. That week Best juggled with only his left foot, the next game he scored 6 goals with his left foot. This shows it can be done.
