Girls and Women’s Football (coaches needed)

If I was to ask you what…’s the most popular sporting activity for females in this country at the moment, what would your answer be Athletics, Netball, Gymnastics. Well you would be wrong on all counts, Its football that takes the prize for the most popular sport undertaken by females in this country.

It wasn’t that many years ago that women’s football was dismissed by most and ignored by the rest, well times have changed and they have changed for the better, I can tell you this from first hand experience.

Did you know that latest statistics are stating that in England alone there are over 8,300 FA registered teams playing week in week out across the length and breadth of the country, even if you base that on a average of 10 players a team it comes to 83,000 participants, that’s a amazing amount of girls and women, when you think that only 8 years ago only 2,500 teams existed in the whole of England.

With this kind of growth in ladies football there is a need for more women coaches, the FA have recognised this and in partnership with the National Sports Foundation are actively pushing out new schemes in different regions of the country to recruit more women into coaching. At this moment in time there are only around 900 female Level 2 coaches and 90 Level 3 coaches, so there is a massive shortfall, not that there is anything wrong with male coaches working with ladies teams, but I am sure its only a matter of time before we see many more women getting involved with coaching and managing ladies sides across England.
