In Sweden there’s been kind of a trend to do a lot of long distance running during the first part of the pre-season, and then as you progress towards the regular season you start to decrease the distance the players are running. When you first think about it, it looks like a pretty decent idea, right? Well, it isn’t. I am so tired of hearing coaches talk about “creating a conditioning foundation for the players so they have base to stand on” when the season starts.

In my study of coaches with three (3) National Championships or more, I found a similar set of attitudes and beliefs. We depend on and take for granted the services that are presented to us daily but the heroes make other contributions as well. The tax base that they provide pays for our roads, and our protections and our schools. Often times they are paying double the taxes. They are paying once for the business and once for their personal income. They provide jobs so others can pay their income taxes. Yes we all contribute but without the small business owners and those that they provide jobs for, the governmental coffers would be lighter indeed.
